Nonfiction Websites for Students (Source – Education Week)

  • Wonderopolis www.wonderopolis.org from the National Center for Families Learning has daily articles about science, social studies, math, and other subjects.
  • Newsela www.newsela.com features daily news articles, each one written at five different reading levels.
  • BrainPOP – www.brainpop.com has short animated videos in science, social studies English, math, health, engineering, and the arts.
  • The Kids Should See This www.thekidshouldseethis.com has more than 2,500 educational videos on a range of topics, with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
  • Tween Tribune www.tweentribune.com, hosted by the Smithsonian, is geared to 8-15-year-olds and features daily high-interest news articles at four different reading levels.

Report Cards – Training sessions on how to use the PowerSchool Gradebook for report cards have started.

Hour of Code –  Lessons (both unplugged and online coding activities)  kick-off this week in the ES! Want to join -in? Please feel free to reach out to me and we shall make it happen for your students.

Indoor recess and devices – Just a gentle reminder to revisit the responsible use guidelines with iPad handling and safety, especially when using the devices during indoor lunch recess in the MPR.

Recording Studio – The studio is equipped with a green screen, tripod, microphone, and studio lights. Sign-up for the space on the ‘ES 134 Recording Studio / Tinkering Space’ Google calendar.

Tech Integration

  • Grade 3 – 5 students are using the GarageBand app to make music. They are also using Sesame to collect evidence of skills (videos) for assessment purposes.

  • Grade 5 – Tinker Time projects using the Garageband, Keynote, iMovie and Google Drawings.
