ES Tech Note # Week of November 7th

Digital AssessmentFifth grade is using the “GRASP” model for the Earth System assessment where the “products” include a blog post and commenting on the posts of others. Check out the Blog Commenting presentation and student blog posts here and here. 2016-11-11_1648
2016-11-11_1647 Digital Assessment — Second graders used the voice-to-text feature for the Habitats unit assessment.
Hour of Code – The coding festival is here once again! There are now  2016-11-11_1652
2016-11-11_16482 Family Tech Night – is on Tuesday, November 8th. The event is open to students and their parents in Grades 5. Some of our 5th Graders are serving on the event’s planning committee.
Arcade games – Some 4th grade classes have made Cardboard Arcade games, and these are setup in the ES tech office. Please call/ email if you would like your classes/ students to try these out. 2016-11-11_1649
Here’s a thought – Empower your Students as Contributors to your class blog. Allow them to take on a more meaningful and an active role by deciding the content for the class blog. Assign roles like Photographer or Videographer, Official Scribe, Social Media (Twitter, Instagram) manager and more.
Tech PD opportunities @ AES

–  LEGO Robotics Drop-in PD focuses on robotics as a strategy to develop skills like project management, problem-solving and collaboration. Explore the use of LEGO WeDo Robotics kits and learn more about how coding and robotics provide opportunities for:

— Asking questions and solving problems.

— Hands-on innovation.

— Using design skills and practices.

— Developing Habits of Mind.

— Student agency.
